Meet Shanell, our acupuncture guru.

Shanell has been getting acupuncture since she was a teenager! She started going for chronic foot pain emanating from an old volleyball injury. After just a handful of treatments acupuncture was able to alleviate a pain that podiatrists, physical therapists and massage therapists were unable to help. After experiencing relief she was completely sold on acupuncture and continued to go for hormone imbalances, digestive difficulties, insomnia, stress, tension, heartbreak and pretty much anything that was coming up in week to week life. It was then she learned about the body-mind-spirit connection and the power of prevention.

Seven years later, Shanell moved to Santa Cruz, CA to pursue a Masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. After four years of rigorous study and clinic internships, she graduated from Five Branches University at the top of her class. Shanell treats a wide array of conditions and has specialty training in women’s health, management of pain conditions, management of stress and anxiety, and preventative care. She is trained in the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association for treatment of addictive behaviors and also has extensive herbal training. She is a Licensed Acupuncturist in the State of Idaho and is certified in Clean Needle Technique by CSOMA.

When she is not practicing acupuncture, Shanell loves to go on hikes and botanize so she can learn more about the medicinal plants in our region and how to use them to stay healthy. She loves to garden and cook and is delving deeper and deeper into holistic nutrition – exploring how to apply food as the first line of defense against any and all illnesses.

About Acu:
Although acupuncture has been practiced for over 2,500 years, it is not an archaic pseudo medicine. Acupuncture has adapted to the times and today is becoming ever more aligned with modern medicine. Acupuncture activates the body’s innate ability to heal itself through very specific points in the body. It is a safe and painless practice involving the insertion of hair-thin, single-use needles into these points to regulate physical functions, increase circulation of oxygen and blood, stimulate the nervous system through nociceptive and proprioceptive fibers, and cause the natural release of hormones that inhibit pain and promote relaxation. The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) documented and publicized acupuncture’s safety and efficacy for treating a wide range of conditions including:

  • Induction of labor
  • Malposition of fetus
  • Morning sickness
  • Difficulty concieving
  • Low back pain
  • Post-op pain
